Are you a paralegal Olympian?

With all the coverage of the Olympics this week, it makes me consider what it means to be an Olympian in the “sport” of paralegal.  It is clear from their performances that the athletes in the Olympics are the elite, the top in their sport, the best at what they do.  Are you the best that you can be in your chosen career?  What makes for a great paralegal?  What are some of the skills you should have?  I would suggest that the following are very important, if not the most important:

People skills – the ability to communicate well verballing and in writing

Organizational skills – the ability to impose order on chaos and the ability to keep things organized despite being very busy

Flexibility – the ability to go with the flow, to adapt to changes in program and to deal with difficult people

High intelligence – paralegals need to be smart

Self-starter – paralegals need to be able to work effectively and efficiently (and keep working) without someone constantly supervising their work

These are just some of the skill set of the paralegal.
