Social Media – What you Post Could Affect Your Employment!

I often have the discussion with paralegal students and graduates that they need to be mindful that employers are checking social media such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and LinkedIn more and more when deciding on new hires.  Social media can also be the basis for you losing your job.  The following are some links to articles regarding precautions to take with regard to social media and what you post:

  1. As a student, I know that I enjoy my social network sites just as much as my classmates. While there are a lot of people who would be fine if their employer were to see their MySpace/Facebook there are a lot more who would probably lose their job if their bosses saw it. I think as students we need to take a look at the content of our pages and ask ourselves “what would our boss, client, mom, pastor or little sibling think if they saw this?” With that said, we also need to remember that our employers check our computer history and realize that we are wasting their time to upload drunk pictures and chat with our friends.
